President Rodrigo Duterte confirmed that Ramon Ang had given him money to finance his campaign during the May elections.
Duterte said that nobody really campaigned for him, or at least some and a few people who believed in him.
Ramon Ang gave him some money, not big, not small but enough to finance his trips, Duterte said during the Christmas Party of the Office of the President last December 20.
The President said Ang, President of San Miguel Corporation, has a ‘disarming attitude of humility.
During the campaign period, Ang has publicly expressed his support for Duterte.
In Duterte’s Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (Soce), Ang, however, was not listed as among the top donors.
Ang is a Filipino businessman, the Vice-Chairman, President and Chief Operating Officer of San Miguel Corporation.
He is also Chairman of Cyber Bay Corporation and Eagle Cement Corporation.
As of 2013, his net worth was estimated at $260 million.
Ang was elected Vice-Chairman of San Miguel Corporation in January 1999; and in March 2002, its President and Chief Operating Officer. In June 2012, Ang gained control of San Miguel Corporation after acquiring the shares owned by Eduardo Cojuangco, Jr.
Duterte also earlier named Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos as his contributor but Marcos has denied the President’s claims.
Marcos’ name also did not appear on Duterte’s Soce.
